If you dream, you need this book!

I loved this book. I felt it gave insight to both the good and bad in dreams and visions. Many Christian written books on dreams focus only on the positive side of things. Perry Stone brings to our attention God loves us, and wants to warn us of things to come so we can pray about them. He states God uses dreams and visions to warn us about attacks, and he can use them to confirm a situation in our life. He shares the rich history of dreams and visions though out the bible to give key insights to the future, for everyday life and decision making, and even for saving lives. Stone gives tons of scripture as always, and his own life experiences with dreams and visions.

I love Perry Stone's honesty in all of his books. For example, there is section on - "Are there female angels?" in this book. He give scriptures, experience, and opinion, but at the end he says- "We will know when we get to heaven for sure." Meaning, if he isn't sure about something, he isn't going to guess and give us incorrect information. Stone always looks for 100% biblical proof and facts. I did learn quite a few things from this book that I didn't know before, such as the law of "double dreams" and the history and spirits behind nightmares. He touches on several types of visions & dreams, such as day vs night dreaming, open eyed visions, and visions in our dreams. He gives in depth description of symbolism commonly used in dreams and visions, and why they are revealed in symbolism. He reminds us that, just because you had a dream several years ago, good or bad, does not mean these dreams or visions will not come to pass. There is an index in the back of the book on popular symbols found in dreams and visions. These symbols are mostly common sense, but he also shows scripture reference to where these symbols were used in the bible. I really appreciate the symbol index in this book, because I have referred back to it several times already. I wish he had given more symbols, but perhaps another book by him in the future will cover that. If you read the index you will see a lot of popular questions relating to dreams and visions, and Stone did a great job of answering them using God's word. He gives so much scripture and experience, it was really enjoyable & informative reading this book; I couldn't put it down!

Most people dream nightly so it seems fitting to own at least 1 book like this. Books I have read in the past on dreams and visions were more worldy, and gave psychic or generic meaning to symbolism. It's good to know it's okay to ponder and research about dreams and visions as a christian, without feeling like I am dabbling in the occult. I am definitely more aware of my dreams since reading this book. Stone lets us know we need to be just as aware of evil spiritual life from hell, as we do spiritual life from God in heaven. All in all this book has revived the importance of dreams to me, and how they are a blessing. Stone repeats this verse though out the book, Job 33 . There is not a more fitting verse for the subject of dreams and visions relating to Christians and non. I got saved after having a terrible warning dream at 17. I am now 26 and truly believe and can verify to the truths in this book. JOB 33:14-18 "For God may speak in one way, or in another, yet man may not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night when deep sleep falls on people, as they slumber in their beds. He may speak in their beds and terrify them with warnings to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride, to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword."

This was worth the money, and I have since purchased 3 more of his books. If you like this book you will really like his book- Purging your house, Pruning your family tree. Both talk about things from God, and things from the enemy. Pay attention to your dreams!

How to Interpret Dreams and Visions

One of the things I like best about Perry Stone's books is that he writes on topics that not many Christian writers cover, but he always has a solid, biblical foundations for all of his books.

How to Interpret Dreams and Visions was a must read for me because this is a subject that I find fascinating, but reading secular books about dreams can lead the reader down a dangerous path away from God. Perry Stone educates and informs the reader about what God is trying to tell us through our dreams and he educates us well.

I loved this book and found each page more interesting than the one before. I really appreciate Perry taking the time to do some solid research and writing a book with a strong Christian message that can guide Christians to understand their dreams. I highly recommend this book. It is interesting, well written and very biblical. I will continue to read Perry Stone's books with confidence that he does not compromise on the Word of God.

I've read many books on the subject of dreams and visions (both secular and Christian) but this surpasses them all. It is so filled with scriptural references that it has a Holy Spirit annointing on it. I have had a life (since childhood) of having supernatural dreams and visions, and this book helped me realize I'm not alone! It gave me not only new understanding but peace and joy! This Means War!

Priscilla has written a book on prayer that is as practical as they come. It's not a theoretical dissertation on prayer. It's a nuts and bolts "let's get on our knees and get after it" guide. Step by step coverage of ten different areas of your life: passion, focus, identity, family, past, fears, purity, pressures, hurts and relationships. She includes numerous specific scriptures for each of these ten areas. If this book doesn't motivate you in the war against the enemy of your soul I don't know what will. "Prayer is the portal that brings the power of heaven down to earth. It is kryptonite to the enemy and to all his ploys against you....His reign of terror stops here. Stops now. He might keep coming, but he won't have victory anymore."

Awesome Prayer Resource for Moms

I was so excited to see a new book on prayer by Priscilla Shirer, Fervent: A Woman's Battle Plan to Serious, Specific and Strategic Prayer.

Full confession here, I am rather the Priscilla Shirer fan. I find her books to be direct, practical and very scripture based. Having said that, this may just be my absolute favorite of all of her books. I judge how well I like a Christian book by how many little sticky flags I place on the pages. I often will quote these thoughts in my ministry (giving full credit of course). This one is covered in little purple flags!

I love the organization of this book. As usual, Ms. Shirer is very organized in the way she writes. She begins with a basic coverage of prayer and specifically regaining your passion for prayer. She then covers nine specific categories she believes we should be addressing in our prayer life: our focus, our identity, our family, our past, our fears, our purity, our pressures, our hearts and our relationships.

Each chapter begins with a little "If I were your enemy" thought. I loved these and have already quoted one on the Parenting Like Hannah Facebook page. It's a great way for her to frame a la C.S. Lewis how Satan must view his plans to derail us from the life God meant for us to live. The chapter is filled with her personal experiences and her insights based on scripture.

One of my favorite parts of this book is that it is filled with scripture. She not only gives the citations within the book, but provides the quotes as well. This is always my pet peace about Christian books - having to flip back and forth within the book or between the book and the Bible to check out scriptures. Kudos to her for making it easy. Sometimes she adds her own thoughts after the scripture, but often she lets them stand on their own.

I won't steal her thunder by quoting lots of passages. Let me just say this book is very practical, very well organized, very thought provoking and very scripture based. If you read my blog regularly, I rarely say you must absolutely own a book. I want to be respectful of your finances. I often say this book is worth reading, but to me that is very different from being a "must read". This in my opinion is one of those "must reads". It even has a tear out section in the back for prayers you can take with you wherever you go.

If you want help with your prayer life, I am sure there are plenty of resources that may help you. I personally would choose to purchase this one. I really think it has the tools you need to enrich, enhance and even jump start your prayer life.

America's First "Husband & Wife" Serial Killer Team

This book, "The Sex Slave Murders" by R. Barri Flowers, published in 1995, is the story of Gerald and Charlene Gallego, a husband and wife serial killing team that over a 26 month period between 1978 and 1980, the pair went on a rein of terror covering 3 states, and committed crimes including kidnapping, sexual assault, rape, torture and murder. Although led by Gerald Gallego's "sex slave" fantasies (Charlene was a willing accomplice), their actions led to the brutal deaths of nine women, one man and one unborn child. As the reader will discover, had it not been for a fortuitous stroke of luck, the two would have continued fulfilling their macabre fantasies, while keeping law enforcement at a safe and unsuspecting distance. Who was Gerald Gallego? Female Serial Killers: How and Why Women Become Monsters He was certainly a sociopath that started his life seriously lacking a positive father figure. Born on July 17, 1946, when Gallego was 9 years old his father was executed for the murder of a prison guard while incarcerated.

He began his killings on Sept. 10th, 1978 when he raped and shot Rhonda Scheffler, aged 17 and Kippi Vaught, aged 16, after his wife Charlene enticed the girls into the car. Charlene Gallego, born Oct. 10th, 1956, was instrumental in all of her husband's murders, luring the victims with promises of marijuana and money. The two teens were shopping at a California mall. Mad Madame Lalaurie: New Orleans's Most Famous Murderess Revealed Charlene picked them up and put them in the back of the couple's van. At gunpoint, Gerald repeatedly raped the two victims throughout the night in Baxter, California. The following day, the Gallego's drove to Sloughouse, Ca., where Gerald got Rhonda and Kippi out of the van. He then made them walk out in the field to a ditch where he hit Kippi first with a tire iron and then he swung around and hit Rhonda. Finally, he shot each girl in the head with a .25 caliber pistol. As he was returning to the van he saw Kippi Vaught move because the bullet had only grazed her skull. He returned and pumped three more bullets in her head, executing her. When Battered Women Kill Charlene's trick of luring victims continued, as Gerald's desire to rape and murder innocent young women grew unabated.

On June 24th, 1979, at the Reno Rodeo County Fair in Nevada, Charlene lured Brenda Judd, aged 14, and Sandra Colley, aged 13, into the Gallego's van on Charlene's promise of the girl's making money delivering leaflets. While Gerald held the girls at gunpoint, Charlene drove the van northeast out of Reno, Nevada on I-80. In the back of the van, Gerald repeatedly raped the two girls while Charlene watched in the rearview mirror. Missing and Murdered Children (Impact Books) Charlene then parked their van in a desolate area known as "Humboldt Sink", Nevada. For the next several hours, Gerald raped and sodomized the girls as Charlene watched and did nothing to stop these horrible acts. Then Gerald marched the girls out of the van and beat both girls to death with a hammer. Their remains were found in 1999 by a tractor driver. Charlene confessed to the killings at the Gallego's 1982 trial. The killings would not stop there. To throw off the police, the couple took on the alias of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Feil.

Next, in gruesome detail, Flowers describes how on the morning of April 24, 1980, Gerald awoke Charlene and demanded; "I want a girl! Get up!". After driving around for awhile, he spotted two girls, both aged 17, named Karen Twiggs and Stacy Ann Redican, leaving a bookstore. Charlene approached the two girls and offered them to join her in the van on the pretext of free marijuana. Capital Consequences: Families of the Condemned Tell Their Stories The girls eagerly agreed and followed her to the van, sealing their doom. As the girls got into the back of the van, Gerald greeted them with a .357 magnum pistol. He quickly ordered Charlene to drive and commanded the girls to undress. After repeatedly raping and sodomizing the girls, he had Charlene drive to a secluded area where he murdered and buried them, forcing Charlene to view the graves. More sex slave murders continued. On June 7th, 1980, while traveling down the highway, Gerald and Charlene spotted a lone pregnant woman hitchhiking named Linda Aguilar. After gladly accepting a ride, Charlene drove as Gerald pulled out his .357 and pointed it at Aguilar's face. After a short drive to a remote area, Gerald raped Linda, and then beat her over the head with a rock.

To satisfy himself that she was dead he strangled her corpse for good measure. On June 22, 1980, German tourists discovered Linda's badly decomposing body. After an autopsy was completed, it was determined that Gerald was unsuccessful in murdering Linda. She had actually awakened after her captors left, and in her panic and struggle to get free, she suffocated in the sand. Unfortunately, Flower's story of the Gallego's carnage doesn't end there. All His Father's Sins: Inside the Gerald Gallego Sex-Slave Murders On July 22, 1980 (Gerald's 34th birthday and Charlene two months pregnant with his child) he abducted Virginia Mochel (also aged 34) as she walked from the tavern where she walked as a barmaid. Bizarre as it sounds, Flowers points out that Charles and Charlene knew Mochel and had been served drinks by her on numerous occasions. Similar to the other instances, Charlene drove as Gerald held Virginia at gunpoint. After repeatedly raping her, she begged Gerald to kill her, and he gladly obliged and strangled her. He dumped her body by a pond. Anyone You Want Me to Be: A True Story of Sex and Death on the Internet On Oct. 3rd, 1980, a fisherman discovered the nude decomposed remains of Mochel in some brush.

The last murders the couple pulled turned out to be their undoing. You will have to read the book to find out how they were caught. At any rate, On. Nov. 1st, 1980, Gerald once again told Charlene, "I'm getting that feeling". A Peculiar Tribe of People: Murder and Madness in the Heart of Georgia He did not need to explain further what he meant, as Charlene knew. Briefly, Craig Miller and Mary Beth Sowers were abducted on Nov. 1st, 1980 in Sacramento, Ca., and were found dead in separate locations. The Gallego vehicle was spotted and identified during this latest abduction. After finding out that the police came to Charlene's mother's house to question Charlene (the investigators found substantial evidence at the residence such as bullet casings and suspicious tools) the couple fled to Omaha, Nebraska. Running out of money, Charlene called her father to wire money to a Western Union in Omaha, Nebraska. Fearing that Gerald might hurt his daughter, Charlene's father called the authorities and informed them of Gerald and Charlene's whereabouts. They were promptly arrested and Charlene quickly confessed and ultimately proved to be the star witness in her husband's trials.

Starting in 1984, Flowers details how Gerald was tried for murder in both California and Nevada. In both instances, Charlene testified against him. In exchange for her testimony, Charlene was not charged in California and agreed to plead guilty to murder in Nevada. She received a sentence of 16 years and 8 months in Nevada, and in August, 1997, at the age of 40, was released on parole from the Dept. of Prison's "Woman's Center" in Carson City, Nevada. Gerald didn't fare so well. Acting as his own attorney, he was convicted and sentenced to death in both states, and awaited execution. Female Serial Killers: How and Why Women Become Monsters Although Flower's book ends at this point, Gallego's death sentence in Nevada was overturned in 1999 and he won the right to a new sentencing hearing, but the new jury also sentenced him to death. On July 18, 2002, Gerald Gallego died after a losing battle with rectal cancer. Gallego died before the appeals in his death penalty case were exhausted and is yet another resident of death row to not be executed before their natural death. He did not make any last minute confessions, insisting he was innocent until he drew his last breath.

It is interesting to note that Gerald Gallego posted on the CCADP Web site before his death (Canadian Coalition Against the Death Penalty) the following request for a pen pal: "My name is Gerald Gallego. I am 54 years old and I will soon be starting my 21st year on Death Row. I was arrested on Nov. 17, 1980, in Omaha, Nebraska. I was returned to California. In 1983, I was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. I was then extradited to the State of Nevada. On June 24th, 1984. I was convicted of murder in the State of Nevada and sentenced to death. I have been fighting the convictions and death sentences in both states throughout all these years. My family is dead and gone. All my friends somehow vanished after my arrest. Over these 20 years, I have had very little to do with the outside world. My appeals is starting to come to an end (in both states) and I am looking for a friend."

Gallego Continued his post: "I am looking for a person that is honest in words and sincere at heart. Someone that will stand with me and befriend me until the end. I'm not looking for a lot of friends-just one true one. As you can see by my poor writing, my misspellings, etc., I am not a well educated man. I don't know if I have anything to offer anyone except my friendship. I guess what I'm saying is to say is I just don't want to go down the road by myself anymore....I don't have any picture of myself...maybe you know someone that might want to write me. I am not very good at letter writing, and someday's are harder than others. But I will try and be a very good pen pal to someone. Sincerely Yours, Gerald Gallego". Was Gallego afraid of dying in jail alone? Getting It Through My Thick Skull: Why I Stayed, What I Learned, and What Millions of People Involved with Sociopaths Need to Know Was his "conscience" finally eating at him? Did Charlene Gallego get off too easily? These are questions this book will make you ponder. What was Charlene's explanation why she went along with Gerald's demonic requests? !Although she told the jury during the trial that she deserved to die for her role in the murders, Flowers gives Charlene's poignant explanation. She stated under oath: "It was my duty, my responsibility to please Gerald, to be what he wanted me to be. I was to accept him...to accept my role.

I knew I would never find anyone else who wanted me. I was afraid of him at the time. I was afraid he would kill me. The only way he would end this relationship was to kill me because of what I knew". Believable? Another woman, Eva Braun, had a unique view of Adolf Hitler's conquests of Europe, his brand of Nazism and the killing centers of the concentration camps, because she dedicated her life to him. Let us also remember that after nearly seventeen years as Adolf Hitler's faithful companion, Eva Braun finally married him in a bunker under the flaming ruins of her bridegroom's Third Reich. Three hours later he poisoned her to death. Finally, I felt that R. Barry Flowers told an excellent, well constructed and eloquent story of a very sick, twisted relationship that cost the lives of 10 innocent people. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I felt that it was Flowers obligation to explore why Charlene Gallego got off so lightly. Just because she testified against Gerald, does that lessen her guilt? Where was her conscience when these murders were going on? This was the only stone Flowers left unturned. Well written

This book was very well written and very descriptive. Unfortunately, I feel so bad for the victims. I mean, one was pregnant and the wife got away without a scratch. But with out the wife's help, this crazy mad man is off the streets.

Milquetoast True Crime

After reading this story, the only real reaction the book elicited from me was a shrug of the shoulders and a "meh" (tm Bart and Lisa Simpson). I am attributing this to a couple of factors. First, the chapters are very short, and the story jumps back and forth between the crimes and the trials of one of the main characters. While this can be an effective way to tell a story, it's not working for me in this book. The chapters are quite short, and at some points the story shifts back and forth with each chapter - this results in a very choppy flow (or lack thereof) to the story.

Second, the writer really seems to project a lot of Charlene's mental state into the book without any indication of where this is coming from. Did the author interview Charlene directly? Did he make assumptions based on the trial testimony she gave? Is he a mind reader? I find it a bit strange that he is continually writing declarative statements of how Charlene felt or of what Charlene was thinking without giving any context as to where this information was coming from.

All in all, I think the book did have one strong point, in that there was no lingering on the actual crimes - no graphic descriptions, no gratuitously gory descriptions of murder scenes. As another reviewer has said, the author also does a great job of humanizing the victims, rather than just making them names to add to the roll call of a body count. Overall, though, I just didn't feel like there was anything in the book that really grabbed my attention.

Great Product

I NEVER take time to write a review for products... Just don't have time. But this kit is so good, was such a hit with my 9 year-old daughter (and me--tons of fun to do together), that I felt compelled to sing its praises. The kit contains pretty beads, a clear, well-written instructional booklet with bright, beautiful, inspiring pictures, and a sturdy loom. My daughter needs a little help stringing the loom and finishing the bracelets, but that hasn't stopped her from making a bracelet a day since Christmas...This is a well-priced, well designed product.

About the Author
Benjamin Ginsberg is the David Bernstein Professor of Political Science and Chair of the Center for Advanced Governmental Studies at the Johns Hopkins University. He is the author or coauthor of 25 books, including Presidential Power: Unchecked and Unbalanced; Downsizing Democracy: How America Sidelined Its Citizens and Privatized Its Public; Politics by Other Means; The Consequences of Consent; The Worth of War; and The Captive Public. Ginsberg received his PhD from the University of Chicago in 1973. Before joining the Hopkins faculty in 1992, Ginsberg was Professor of Government at Cornell. His most recent books are The Fall of the Faculty: The Rise of the All-Administrative University and Why It Matters; What the Government Thinks of the People; and Analytics, Policy and Governance.

Theodore J. Lowi has been John L. Senior Professor of American Institutions at Cornell University since 1972. He was elected President of the American Political Science Association in 1990 and was cited as the political scientist who made the most significant contribution to the field during the decade of the 1970s. Among his numerous books are The End of Liberalism and The Pursuit of Justice, on which he collaborated with Robert F. Kennedy.

Margaret Weir is Professor of Sociology and Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley. She has written widely on social policy in Europe and the United States. She is the author of Politics and Jobs: The Boundaries of Employment Policy in the United States and coauthor (with Ira Katznelson) of Schooling for All: Class, Race, and the Decline of the Democratic Ideal. Weir has also edited (with Ann Shola Orloff and Theda Skocpol) The Politics of Social Policy in the United States.

Caroline Tolbert is Professor of Political Science at the University of Iowa, where she regularly teaches the introductory American government course and was awarded the Collegiate Scholar Award for excellence in teaching and research. Her research explores political behavior, elections, American state politics, and the Internet and politics. Tolbert is coauthor of Digital Citizenship: The Internet Society and Participation; Why Iowa? How Caucuses and Sequential Elections Improve the Presidential Nominating Process; and Virtual Inequality: Beyond the Digital Divide. Digital Citizenship was ranked one of 20 best-selling titles in the social sciences by the American Library Association in 2007. Her latest coauthored scholarly book is Digital Cities: The Internet and the Geography of Opportunity. American Government Textbook, good for the value, some redundant information

Purchased this book for an American Government Class at the University Level. The textbook contained all information necessary for the course, and additional information that was interesting to read. Much of the information in the earlier chapters is general knowledge/high school knowledge which one may skip if using the book as a study resource. The book also provides notes to additional online resources, which can be useful if one is using the book as a study resource.
The book arrived in new-condition, with no damage or printing errors.
