A comical take on life and love :-)

Jim Belushi is really funny. I love According To Jim. He's quick on the mark and he's a hoot. I was intersted in reading this because he is so funny - even though this is obviously dedicated to men. It's not an advice book though - it's insightful and surprisingly so. While there is advice in there, it's main goal was to be a funny read. This is his comical take on life and love. He does get serious through a portion of it - he goes on to talk about his brother dying and trying to make it as an actor too.

He loves relationship expert Justin Sterlings concept of three types of men; the Curly, the Ghandi and the Clint. Curly (of The Three Stoges fame) for humour, Ghandi for compassion and Clint for strength. I guess Jim is the Curly mainly.

He strongly wants guys to read this, but not women so much because he'll let out too many mens secrets.

This really is a good read. I'm most of the way through and I'm going strong. It's humourous, touching in parts and very very enjoyable.

Funny, Educational AND 100% True

The real charm of this book is that it is incredibly funny and incredibly true. You will really feel that truth in your gut when you read this.
You will also laugh yourself sore and learn (and unlearn) a ton about the mystical world of male/female relationships, and volumes about how to be the kind of man that your woman would cheat on you for ;>)
I'm sure there are some people that will read this book and somehow be offended. My advice them would be to get real, in a hurry. You're missing out on life.
I'm making sure my "guys" read this too. It will keep them out of a world of trouble, and give them an opportunity to thrive.
This is mandatory reading for anyone in a relationship, or who anyone wants to be the kind of man the world needs more of.

On balance a very good book - nice balance between light-hearted and substantive topics.

Just finished reading Jim Belushi's book, 'Real Men Don't Apologize.'

On balance a very good book. I had some qualms, some issues with references I didn't follow, some advice I'd disagree with.

But on balance, a very respectable entry into the world of coaching for men.

One of the entries I liked most about his book was a passage on boundaries.

Having rececently completed my relationship coaching certification, the topic of identifying and sticking to your relationship requirements was of great interest to me.

Belushi puts this concept into his own terms - first in terms of the caveman, and the three personas a man should embrace - the Clint (Eastwood, strength), the Ghandi (spiritual sensitivity) and the Curly (Howard, humor). Those examples worked.

"Then our caveman friend bared his teeth and smacked his ass to let his woman know he was unwavering, an early Clint.

Oh sure, she was upset. But she realized her caveman was right...And even though she was mad, she respected our caveman's strength for standing his ground. He set boundaries. He established rules for the relationship."

He goes on to write about how those boundaries will be put to the test in a relationship:

"So in order to make sure their men are strong, women need to test us. And if your want your relationship to work, you have to pass the test.

It starts with little things...Ask yourself: Does it compromise my agreements with myself, my terms? Does what she asks me to compromise me as a man?

...The longer you are in a relationship, however the tougher the tests become."

And there you have it.

Tests are part of a relationship, the only thing you can do is determine which battles are worth fighting, which parts of your life are worth a sit down.

This book is the best book on archery I have ever read! I first found this book in a local library. I'm trying to find a copy of this book (Preferably Brand New), unfortunately it is out of print. Fred Bear, as many know, is the best bowyer who has lived. It is veerrryyyy long and explains, step-by-step, all techniques from beginer to advanced. If I could only have one archery book. This is it!

Virtually nothing of Fred Bear in the book. Simply borrowed his famous name. Terribly over priced at $44.00 for a discarded public library book. Nice profit for the seller, but they will not sell me another.

About the Author
Janet Foy’s interest in dressage started when she lived in Oxford, England, and she passed several British Horse Society Instructor Exams. She is currently an FEI4* judge, USEF S Dressage Judge, and USEF Sporthorse R Breeding Judge. She has judged at all major shows in the United States, as well as national championships and CDI***/W in Guatemala, England, Colombia, Costa Rica, Barbados, Canada, Poland, Australia, and Mexico, and the FEI World Cup League Finals for the United States, Canada, and Australia. Janet is a former member of the USDF Executive Board and the USA Equestrian Board of Directors, and a current member of the Federation Dressage Committee and the International High Performance Dressage Committee. She is also on the USDF L Faculty and instructs federation judges training programs throughout the United States for dressage and sport horse breeding.

Not very useful

I was hoping for real life questions and there were a few, but not many. The questions that asked something specific- "how do I do 'this'?"- were not answered. Rather it seemed like the author wanted to answer another question and did so. This book is not as described on the web page at all. I returned it. If you want to really get answers, get Sylvia Loch's "The Balanced Horse". Now that is a great book.

Well worth reading

Smallpox goes back thousands of years. 300-500 million people died of it in the 20th century alone. Among other things, this is the story of how the scourge ended, the only time humans have ever eradicated a disease with vaccines. But it's also a story about a good guy who met a saint and then got pushed by that saint into playing a role in the fight against the disease.

I once asked a friend who was a rabbi if he believed in miracles. He said that if you're closed off, no one can ever convince you that they exist, but that if you have an open mind, you see them everywhere. I suspect that's how this book will work. I don't know if it's reasonable to read the book as a miracle story. But if it is such a story, it's a pretty big miracle.

Brilliant talks about doing the work without making it about him, and about the need not to get a big head. The book is human scaled, it's the story about a single guy and the work he did, alongside many other people. So you have to step back and remind yourself of the scope of what has happened, of those 300 million people who died, the constant stream of people who were being infected, who would have died, the people who would be sick or dead today, but aren't.

It's a very important story.

Sometimes Brilliant: The impossible adventure of a spiritual seeker and visionary physician who helped conquer the worst disease in history.

Unfortunately I read about a book every two years. This week however, was different when I picked up the book from my husbands dear golf buddy Larry Brilliant. The book signing was last night, and I made a concerted effort to get what little reading I could and the two days that preceded! So far, it is quite possibly one of the best books I've ever read. For anyone who believes in your life's purpose, was alive during Woodstock, has an affinity for the 60s in San Francisco, has a vested interest in world health issues, making the world a better place, or just needs a bit of inspiration in our current election cycle - this book is amazing.

And I would hope it is destined to be a best seller.

I'm only on page 80, but the tales start as a young Jewish boy in Detroit, then from to their Turk Street apartment in San Francisco, and then on the road with 20 hippie buses along the silk road bringing medical supplies, food and love to people in need… With wavy gravy as their ultimate hippie cheerleader. I know that it was this period of time that they meet up with Steve Jobs, and I would imagine he will be there somewhere in the book. Larry has had a colorful life; he helped eradicate smallpox, was the grateful deads doctor, founded the Seva foundation, headed Google philanthropy for several years and much, much more.

At the book signing, the front two rows were of white-haired men and women, with what I'm sure were many, many stories to tell, wavy gravy included. We overheard him talking to an eight-year-old girl about caring a rubber fish on a stick… it was perfect. I feel so grateful, that he wrote this inspiring book, while he is still thriving and making a difference.
