The result was always the same. The technically inferior civilization always classified the other side as being “supernatural.” The effects of the technical devices were regarded as “miracles.” That is what happened last century; that is what happened during the age of discoveries and that is what happened during the Stone Age. That is when extra-terrestrials landed on earth that behaved like ethnologists. They observed a number of societies and disappeared again, promising that they would return some day. The Stone Age people hadn’t understood anything and categorized the foreigners as “gods.” And that is how religions were established.

How could knowledge like that be lost over the millennia? And why is it still being suppressed in our day and age that is so enlightened?

DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST !!!

Before you click "NO" (you don't like this review) please consider the following very carefully ... First, I have been a loyal, life-long fan of von Daniken and his theories since I first read "Chariots" as a young man in the early seventies and NOTHING has changed. I own and have read every book he has authored available in English and still have most of the original hard copies in my extensive personal research library. I had the honor of meeting Erich and presenting him one of the first copies of my own book "Intelligent Intervention" which supports all of his major premises. I dedicated my book to Erich and began the opening chapter with one of his best-known quotes: "The keys to our future lie hidden in the past." Erich has secured his place in history. The future will only increasingly serve to support his knowledge that Earth was visited long ago by advanced aliens. Therefore, when I state that this particular book is not great, I make this claim without malice or insult and from an exceptionally well-informed perspective. The transliteration from German to English is very poor, making the English version in serious need of a competent editor. Moreover, this book is simply a loosely-collected compendium of many various pieces of evidence (some strong and some VERY weak) which might support his thinking. The strong "evidence" was already presented in his previous books in a much more scholarly and precise manner. Much of the newer evidence in this book is not well-established, scantily described and doesn't contain "source footnotes" so that a reader can do additional study to confirm its legitimacy. My suggestion is 'don't read this book' ... unless you have first read some of his classic works such as "Chariots of the Gods." Most important, don't judge his credibility by this book alone, he is far more knowledgeable than is evidenced here in this poorly crafted read. I hold von Daniken's contributions to humanity in the highest esteem, but I have concerns that this particular book, taken alone, could detract from all of the fine prior work he has shared with humanity throughout his entire life and career.

Disappointing

I have been an admirer of Von Doniken's work since I first read Chariots of the Gods many years ago. (I read a first US translation.) in the End of Silence, he attempts to build a case for the secret societies of our world to reveal the truth about Ancient Astronauts and visitations of the "gods".

I'm afraid his book bored me. It rehashes old ideas while neglecting to present any new information.

My advice is avoid this book.

He never once compromised his morals.

I came across this movie on tv one day completely by accident. I am a huge history buff and WWII is one of my favorites. I realized halfway through the movie that my mouth was hanging open. I was blown away by Mr. Doss and his story. How often do you find someone who stands by their morals....no matter what? The level of integrity this man displayed was beyond reproach. I would've loved to have met him to thank him for the lessons he taught me.

I find it ironic that the officer that gave him such a hard time in the beginning and tried to get him kicked out, ended up being the one who deserted his men in the heat of battle. I served in the U.S. Army for 11 years, and I can count on one hand (with a few fingers left over) how many true "leaders" there were. Real leaders lead by example, never ask their soldiers to do something they aren't willing to do themselves, and go to bat for their people no matter who they have to go up against. You will find those leader's soldiers giving them 110%.

Mr. Doss never compromised, even in the face of evil, even when he was being humiliated by his fellow soldiers and superiors, and not even in the middle of treacherous battle. He risked his life for the same people that a few months before hated his guts. He gave, not even knowing, or caring, that he would get something in return. He forgave those that persecuted him. We should all be like Mr. Doss, the world would be better for it.

My Favorite WWII story of all time

This is my favorite WWII story of all. The DVD is worth buying, I watch it every Memorial Day. I was channel surfing one Memorial Day and it was on TV, I found Desmond's address on the internet and wrote to him and he send me this book. He died last year, but I will never forget him.

Desmond Doss Life as written by his second wife

This book about Desmond Doss was written by his second wife. (His first wife had died in a car accident.)
The book tells of Desmonds early life through the extensive use of flashbacks as Doss is crossing the ocean on a troopship. It also covers his life after he received the Medal of Honor.

When I first read about Desmond Doss (in a comic book published in 1948), I had a hard time believing he actually did what the book claimed. After much research, I have decided that the actions he took that led to him being awarded the Medal of Honor, comprise the MOST amazing story of WWII.

It was a good and entertaining read.

Excellent guidebook on microsensors and MEMS sensors

There are a fair number of MEMS books available now, and I've commented on a few of them. This one is well focused though on sensors, broadly interpreted. Use amazon's search inside this book to thumb through it and find a couple of sections of particular interest. There's a lot of information in here, and the references are especially good for taking you to additional and, if needed, primary literature.

I am extremely disappointed. This book is poorly written and full of mistakes. While this book is not a complete waste of time and money, it is very close. I can only hope that the huge number of mistakes and typographical errors can be fixed in future editions.

A Very Interesting Travel Tale

This is a very interesting read about a road trip made by two brothers from the UK to the eastern tip of Russia in a car. Sometimes amusing, sometimes scary, and always interesting you will feel like you are riding along in the back seat for the trip. If you like to read about travel and especially if you have an interest in Siberia you will definitely enjoy this book.

I enjoyed this travel saga. nice job. Some typos but still interesting to read about the brothers' adventures. A folow- up book that shows how the area and roads have changed would be well worth reading.

After reading the first five chapters I am super excited to read The Vault of Dreamers. I thought that this section of the book was written really well. I also liked the characters and how they were presented. I thought that was a good amount of the book to offer for free because I could see whether or not I liked it. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in it but is not sure they want to buy it.
