Great motivator

I would suggest to read "Losing my virginity" first so you get a better understanding of Branson's life. I did it the other way unfortunately. During his book he will tell various stories about his life that affected his way of thinking. It's a good motivation book for anyone considering his/her own business. The most important lesson (aside other great ones) that I took with me: Do it for fun - not for money! And he is damn right.

I strongly recommend this book even if you do not open your own business.

This is an enjoyable light read. While he covers his life and his lessons learned, I enjoyed catching his attitude--one of bringing fun to business. I'm on my second reading of it now--so that says something.

This is a very interesting and informative book. Richard Branson is not trying to sell anything; he's just explaining how he came to be what he is today.

Branson is completelly right that people must have fun with whatever they do. Otherwise, they will become miserable robots regreting missed opportunities one day.

A Giant Amongst Researchers

One of the best you'll find, from one of the last great pioneers in research. Though somewhat dated, you'll find all the classic stories here retold in their entirety. Many little details often left out in other sources. One of my first purchases on the subject back in the 1970s, and recently re-discovered after ten years lossed in my garage. Thank God for the recent move to my new home, a lot of things are being located once again!

John Greens voice speaks volumes when it comes to this subject. I was glad I got my hands on this copy. Hes one of the few out there that really know what they're talking about. He sticks to facts and he doesn't veer away from the truth. Ive met Bob Gimlin in person and he shared his story with me about the film that Roger Patterson made but Green adds things that were never told to me through my research. Very informative!

Many of the stories are old standby stories about Big Foot, Sasquatch. John Green has always done an excellent job in his work with Big Foot. Being a believer in BF after seeing and hearing one, I find John Greens coverage superior. This is not a new book and it is past pretense, but awesome! The book came to me in very good shape for its age and reasonable! The seller was awesome! Recommend to others!

From a student perspective, avoid this book if possible

One of the worst, if not the worst, textbooks I have ever had to use. This may be a valuable reference for a practicing engineer who already has a good familiarity with the topics covered and wants to review theory. However, if one is looking to use this book as a guide to LEARN the topic of Advanced Soil Mechanics it is wholly inadequate. I do not believe there is a single example in the entire book that shows how the concepts discussed in the text can actually be applied. Yet the practice problems offered are some of the most perplexing and intentionally deceptive questions I have come across in my engineering curriculum, which has included several prior Geotechnical Engineering courses, so it is not as though I have no experience with soil mechanics. If looking for an alternative, I have heard good things about the Das soil mechanics textbook, although I only have firsthand experience with Das's foundation engineering textbooks, which are great.

Excellent - There are ERRORS though

Since Wiley does not (apparently) publish errata for this book, I figured I'd post this here; it may be some help to some frustrated grad student (like me).

On pg 293, top of the first column, an equation for the change in horizontal stress is given (for Boussineq conditions). The first subtraction operator should be an addition operator and the first addition operator should be a subtraction operator. This modification renders a reasonable result in keeping with results from Poulos and Davis (1974).

Hope that spares you a couple hours of hair-tearing.

About the Author

Ronald Kahan, MD, a sought-after health care lecturer and consultant, is an associate clinical professor at Yale Medical School and has practiced medicine for more than thirty years. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Yale University and his MD from Weill-Cornell Medical College, and went on to conduct his residency at Harvard combined hospitals, specializing in dermatology.

Born in 1945, Dr. Kahan is one of the millions of Americans now covered by Medicare. He has tackled Medicare issues in both his personal and professional life, which brings an incredibly rich, practical perspective to his writing.

An Invaluable Resourse

GE recently terminated its group health plan for its retirees much to the chagrin of my wife and me. We were both covered under this plan. We were given a minor stipend and were directed to purchase supplemental Medicare health insurance through OneExchange (a TowersWatson company). IBM did the same thing several years ago so there is an unmistakable trend here. All of a sudden, I had to become an expert on purchasing supplemental Medicare insurance including Part D drug coverage. Fortunately, I know Dr. Ronald Kahan and I immediately purchased his book. In very short order, I became quite an expert on Medicare and the benefits and shortcomings of the myriad of supplemental plans that one can purchase. I found Dr. Kahan's book to be extremely informative and helpful. He explained a very complex subject in plain and clear terms. In fact, in dealing with the licensed Benefits Advisors at OneExchange, they were surprised that I knew so much about Medicare and the various supplemental plans. The knowledge that I gained from Medicare Demystified will continue to serve me well in future years. This book is an invaluable resource.

Good for Your Health

Full of useful information and devoid of political spin, Medicare Demystified delivers fully on the promise of it's title. In less than 250 pages of well-researched and understandable prose and tables, Dr. Kahan translates and distills thousands of pages of regulatory and marketing doublespeak into a must-have manual for all those impacted by this important national health insurance program. Of particular value is the division of the book into two parts: 1)choosing the best plan, 2)using your plan wisely. As a fellow physician, I truly appreciate the work the author has done to bring light and understanding to this complex subject at a time when 10,000 Americans are turning 65 and becoming Medicare eligible every day.

An outstanding book, especially for someone who will be signing up for Medicare

This book is superb and does exactly what the title says, i.e., simplify a confusing subject. It provides essential information for a Medicare beneficiary and is a must-read for anyone who is approaching the time to sign up for Medicare. While thorough in its coverage of the subject, it is well-written and gets to important points directly, making it an easy read. The book is divided into 2 parts: “Choosing Your Medicare Plan” and “Using Your Medicare Plan”. The first part covers subjects such as who qualifies for Medicare; how to sign-up for Medicare; and the differences between Medicare Part A (e.g., hospital coverage), Medicare Part B (e.g., physicians’ fees), Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage plans run by private insurance companies), and Medicare Part D (drug plans). The second part covers how to use Medicare, touching on subjects such as why it’s important to have a PCP (primary care physician), how to find a new doctor, the difference between skilled nursing facilities and custodial nursing homes, and how to understand the EOBs (explanation of benefits) that Medicare beneficiaries receive after medical services are utilized. Although I am a physician and have some familiarity with Medicare, I learned many important things that make the book well worth its price (e.g., the significant long-term increase in what a person will have to pay for Medicare coverage if Medicare is not signed up for during the appropriate time frame) . In writing this book, Dr. Kahan has done an invaluable service for anyone who needs to know more about Medicare.

"The Jewish State" and "The New-Old Land" by Theodore Herzl
and "Trial and Error" (In two volumes) by Weizmann.
The "Jewish Home" that they worked so hard to make a reality bears almost no resemblance
to the current-day (2016) Israel. These books should be read by all Zionists and anti-Zionists alike.

About the Author
Hans-Rudolf Wenk is Professor of the Graduate School in the Department of Earth and Planetary Science at the University of California, Berkeley. Since joining the Berkeley faculty, he has been engaged in teaching and research, covering a wide field of mineralogy, from feldspars to carbonates, metamorphic rocks to shales, and from the Earth's surface to the inner core. His particular focus has been on microstructures, investigated using electron microscopy and synchrotron X-rays.

Andrey Bulakh is Professor in the Department of Mineralogy at St Petersburg State University. He is a specialist in mineralogy, geochemistry and the origin of alkaline rocks and carbonatites. More recently, he has studied the history of ornamental stones in architecture. He has written several books that are widely used at Russian universities, and was a long-time member of the Commission on New Minerals, Nomenclature and Classification of the International Mineralogical Association.

About the Author
E. BRUCE GOLDSTEIN is Associate Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh and Adjunct Professor of Psychology at the University of Arizona. He has received the Chancellor's Distinguished Teaching Award from the University of Pittsburgh for his classroom teaching and textbook writing. He received his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Tufts University and his PhD in experimental psychology from Brown University; he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Biology Department at Harvard University before joining the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh. Bruce has published papers on a wide variety of topics, including retinal and cortical physiology, visual attention, and the perception of pictures. He is the author of SENSATION AND PERCEPTION, 9th Edition (Cengage, 2014), and the editor of the BLACKWELL HANDBOOK OF PERCEPTION (Blackwell, 2001) and the two-volume SAGE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PERCEPTION (Sage, 2010).

Bought the new version solely because I wanted the Coglab bundle. The book did not come with Coglab so I had to pay an extra $50 in addition to the full price of the new textbook. It is unclear that the book does not come with Coglab as it is mentioned in the info section

Well written textbook

I have read several psychology books throughout my college career, and this one is by far the most well written textbook I have ever read. This author does a great job of explaining things, and giving examples that really let you relate concepts to every day life. He makes it easy to learn and not just read and forget.

I just have to use it for a class I'm taking, but I feel like it only touches on some important people/events/experiments and delves too much into things that don't pertain to the chapter or section. I am also particularly peeved that the author spent 4 paragraphs in excruciating detail to explain how flow charts work as if people don't already know how they work.

Does the textbook do it's job at explaining stuff? Yes. Does it over-explain some trivial topics and is just a waste of pages? Also yes. It teaches you what you need to know, but to me, the book is just okay.
