OK, but not Great!

I taught social studies for two years before taking the class that required me to read this book, so I was looking forward to learning more, but this book did not help with that. The book was very dry and boring. Also, it talked about the things to teach without giving good examples of HOW to teach it. I would not recommend this book to anyone who is looking for help with teaching social studies.

This is a super text for implementation into a social studies methods course.

Sunal and Haas' updated text is comprehensive and applicable for teachers of young and middle social studies learners in elementary school. The lesson examples are from local teachers and are tried and true. There is no other text that I would rather utilized in my graduate social studies methods course.

The activities in this book were too complex for the level of students that I am teaching. I am looking for a very low level interactive social studies guide that includes hands-on activities.
